How We Californians Pay for School

21 Mar

Ever taken a look at a local school’s budget? Unless you are well-versed in public agency accounting protocols, I’d bet you $5 you cannot make heads or tails of it.

In an opinion piece written by Michelle Rhee this past weekend, the lack of transparency and clarity in our school funding is taken to task.

We all pay taxes.  Whether we have children or not, a good deal of those taxes goes to invest in education.  What Mrs. Rhee is saying is we have no good manner to figure out if our tax dollar is actually reaching our students.  This has to change.

Enjoy the written piece and please feel free to share your thoughts below.
